Friends of Manjushree Vidyapith School and Orphanage (FMVSO)

The town of Tawang in North East India is about 20 miles from the border of Tibet, in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. This is an area at 10,000 - 12,000 feet in the Himalayas of outstanding natural beauty but relative impoverishment.  Access requires 2 days of tiring journey along winding mountain roads, which are often washed away by the monsoon. There is now a helicopter service between Guwahati in Assam and Tawang.  However, due to weather conditions, this service is often unavailable.

The way of life leads to relatively high mortality amongst both parents and children.  Many children are left with either no parents at all or are effectively destitute. Manjushree Vidyapith School and Orphanage (MVSO) was established in 1998 to rescue children whose prospects would otherwise have been very poor indeed.

The vision of Manjushree Vidyapith is:

  • To provide a home and close-knit loving family for orphans, physically disabled or destitute children of the Tawang district.
  • To provide a modern education and sound moral values.
  • To inspire the young people to act with a good heart, to become leaders in their communities, and to help bring peace to the world.

Friends of Manjushree Vidyapith School and Orphanage (FMVSO) was established in 2006 to provide support to MVSO.

The mission of FMVSO is 'to help sustain, improve and expand the facilities of the school and orphanage'.

FMVSO is a charitable trust, number 1113428, registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales.  Click on this link for more information.
